Chess school in Kryvyi Rih

With the support from the All-Ukrainian Charity Foundation “Chess for Children” at the end of 2012 in the city of Kryvyi Rih a new modern chess club started operating on the basis of the chess department of the Children and Youth Sport School No. 3. The premises of the chess club and school for children were renovated, and the 5-metre marble chess piece – the tallest in the world – was installed in front of the club on the city’s art square. The chess club is equipped with modern inventory and equipment in accordance with the standards of the International Chess Federation, technical capabilities have been created for conducting online broadcasts of events and chess tournaments.

The head trainer of the chess department in the Children and Youth Sport School No. 3 of Kryviy Rih is Vadim Kazmiruk, who also holds the post of the executive director of the chess federation of Kryvyi Rih. Kazmiruk Vadym has the title of Candidate for Master of Sports, is a member of the board of the Dnipro Regional Chess Federation and is a national chess judge. He has experience as a chess trainer since 2001.

As of 2023, 52 children are studying in the chess club.

The educational and training process takes place in accordance with the approved schedule in 5 study groups, including 1 group of initial training for the first year of study, 1 group of initial training for the second year of study, 2 groups of preliminary basic training and 1 group of special training. The average duration of classes in groups with children under 8 years old is 60 minutes, 9-12 years old – 120 minutes, 13-16 years old – 180 minutes. On average, each group practises 2-3 times a week. In 2023, the training staff of the club includes 3 teachers, who have the title of Candidates for Sport Master: Kazmiruk Vadim, Shestopalov Valerii and Mozgovy Ihor.

During 2020-2023, 2 students of the club fulfilled the norm of Candidate for Master of Sports, 10 chess players won the first category, 15 chess players got the norms of the second category.

The best students of the club are Mykola Kutsik (born in 2003, CM), Lyakh Vasyl (born in 2008, CM), Minayeva Yuliana (born in 2006, CM), Balyk Timur (born in 2008, CM), Gromko Amelia (born in 2008, 1st rank), Balyk Artur (born in 2011, 1st rank), Gerus Yevhen (born in 2011, 1st rank), Desyatnik Denys (born in 2011, 1st rank).

During the period of 2020-2023, the club held 34 events, in which more than 200 young chess players took part.

In the first quarter of 2023 the chess club of the Children and Youth Sport School No. 3 in Kryvyi Rih held 4 chess events (2 in online format and 2 in offline format), in which 48 children took part. Students of the club take part in international, all-Ukrainian, regional and local chess tournaments.
